New State-by-State Primers on Voting Rights Restoration
State criminal disenfranchisement laws deprive approximately 6.1 million people in the U.S. of their right to vote. These laws have a disparate impact on communities of color. The vast majority of those disenfranchised—77 percent—are not incarcerated. They are living in the community on probation or parole or have completed their sentence. Check out our new state-by-state primers to see how 13 states in the nation stack up when it comes to rights restoration. As a bonus, we’ve also created a brief overview of rights restoration nationally and a special litigation primer.
