A Time to Fight, Organize and Protect

Washington – Advancement Project, a national racial justice organization, released the following statement in anticipation of Donald J. Trump being sworn in as president:

“There is no denying it: Today is a dark day in America,” said Judith Browne Dianis, Executive Director of Advancement Project’s national office. “A candidate who won on racism, sexism and xenophobia is moving into the White House. If the transition process and personnel selection are any indication, Trump intends to turn back the clock, fast, on equality and justice.

“What this does not change is the fact that communities of color have grown stronger, more organized, and more resilient. We have scored victories, from the courts to the streets, which scared the most racist pockets of power.

“Not all will survive. But as we resist, defend and rebuild, we will look to each other. We will uplift Black people, immigrants, Muslims, and LGBTQ communities. We look to each other for love and strategy, and we will move forward fiercely in defense of our schools and our access to the ballot. We have torn down much more than walls on our path to freedom. We know we will prevail.”
